“Born for Adventure. Built in America”
About Lightship
Lightship designs and manufactures all-electric travel trailers, led by its AE.1 model, at its factory in Broomfield, Colorado, with engineering also based in San Francisco, CA. The company was co-founded by CEO Toby Kraus and Chief Product Officer Ben Parker, both previously of Tesla and Proterra, and sells direct-to-consumer rather than through a dealer network. The AE.1 uses an 'Aero-Electric' Dual Mode design and a self-propelled TrekDrive electric drive system intended to extend tow-vehicle range or fuel economy, powered by an onboard solar and lithium-iron-phosphate battery system.
How they build
Lightship's founders describe the company mission as making the outdoors accessible through sustainable travel, aiming to prove that 'sustainability and joyful outdoor travel experiences can go hand in hand' via a fully integrated, all-electric microgrid rather than a conventional or lightly-electrified trailer.
