Grounded
“Smart, modular, electric specialty vehicles and adventure vans”
About Grounded
Grounded is a Detroit-based electric RV startup headquartered at Michigan Central (Newlab), founded by former SpaceX engineer Sam Shapiro, who serves as CEO. The company builds all-electric, modular camper vans, including the G2 and its newest model, the G3, which is built on the General Motors/Chevrolet BrightDrop Zevo 400/600 platform and delivers a 286-mile combined range with all-wheel drive. Grounded's vans feature self-heating lithium battery systems for four-season use, 1,400W vehicle-to-house charging, and a customer-facing online build configurator, and the company has also begun producing BrightDrop-based builds for commercial uses such as mobile health, food and beverage, and trades.
How they build
Per chief product officer Nadia Meyer, Grounded's design philosophy is "form follows function," aiming to let customers live, work, and travel off-grid without compromising sustainability values; the company describes its mission as redefining electric travel through smart, sustainable RVs with modular interiors and off-grid connectivity.
