About Foundation Vehicles

Foundation Vehicles builds pre-insulated, upfit-ready composite bodies for van and truck cab chassis, positioning itself as the starting point for a build rather than the finished vehicle. The company describes its origin as a frustration with existing platforms that were thermally inefficient, difficult to modify and required constant workarounds, and says its team spent years fabricating, designing and building vans before engineering a replacement. The product is a 1.5-inch composite panel body using a patented aluminum/polymer extrusion and vacuum-formed panels, mounted on a torsion-reduction subframe. Foundation claims R-12 insulation, a 7-foot interior height and 6-foot 8.5-inch interior width for roughly 65 percent more volume than an equivalent cargo van, 90-degree corners and flat surfaces to simplify upfitting, built-in 80/20 t-slot extrusion, and inorganic fire-retardant materials that do not absorb water or support mold. Bodies are offered blank or with options including European-style insulated entry doors, dual-pane acrylic awning windows, cargo hatches, a toy-hauler ramp door that converts to a railed deck, underbody storage boxes, entry steps and paint. Van platforms cover the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Transit and Ford E-Series, the last with a 4x4 conversion by UJoint Offroad. The truck line covers Ford F550, Ram 5500, Chevrolet 6500 and LMTV chassis. The company manufactures in Colorado, states FMVSS and OEM compliance, and says it is in the final stages of becoming a Mercedes-Benz Certified Upfitter. Customers include van builders, upfitters and adventure-vehicle companies as well as logistics, construction, food service and government fleets, and Foundation sells to both individual buyers and fleets.
